Ryobi Pressure Washer Review 2022

There has been a lot of talk about the Ryobi pressure washer in recent years. We reviewed several Ryobi pressure washers and learned a great deal about them. And like most other Ryobi tools, Ryobi also makes a great pressure washer. Here’s what you need to know.

Our Approach

At Lakeland Pressure Washing we are constantly buying and testing different types of pressure washers and pressure washing products. This is because we only want to use the best pressure washers. Having the best pressure washer saves time, money, frustration, and makes our lives easier and helps give us an advantage over the competition. It’s smart business!

In January 2021, we came upon a Ryobi product that allowed us to take our 18 volt Ryobi batteries and plug them into a RYOBI 150-Watt Powered Inverter Generator as a back up power supply. This is when we fell in love with Ryobi products!

Since that time, we’ve tested several Ryobi pressure washers and figured out which ones are worth buying. Our approach when reviewing pressure washers comes down to five main things:

  • How well it cleans
  • User experience
  • How long it lasts
  • Customer service
  • How much it costs

What we reviewed:

Lakeland Pressure Washing recommends this product:

RYOBI 2300 Electric Pressure Washer

Ryobi 2300 Electric Pressure Washer

Cleanliness is everything. No one likes to see dirt or grime where they live, work, or play, which is why it’s so important to keep surfaces clean.

Regular cleaning can prevent mold, that when left unchecked can spread quickly and cause structural damage to your property.

The Ryobi 2300 2300Pounds per Inch Pressure washer cleans up in just minutes what would take hours with with many other pressure washers. The Ryobi RY802900 is a commercial-quality home pressure washer that really gets the job done!

What you get

With the Ryobi 2300 get:

  • Power: The Ryobi 2300 pressure washer has a power of 2.0 GPM and 2300 PSI
  • Foam Gun: The pressure washer has a built-in soap dispenser (detergent tank) that helps in foam cleaning
  • Gun: The pressure washer has a hose that helps in cleaning difficult to reach areas
  • Wheels: The pressure washer has wheels that help in easy transport

How well it cleans

The Ryobi 2300 cleans extremely well. We cleaned an algae stained vinyl fence with a single pass over spray, using the 45-degree switch over nozzle. The cleaning power was better than many commercial gas powered pressure washers we’ve used. Many pressure washers require going over the algae and black mold several times, not the Ryobi RY802900.

User experience

What’s great about the user experience is the fact you have these large wheels that make transporting the Ryobi 2300 a breeze. They also help stabilize the pressure washer on uneven surfaces, even a high pitch roof we used it on.

The gun is great because the nozzles tips are built in. This is great because you don’t worry or stress over the possibility of losing the nozzles. Switching the nozzles is as easy as switching a shower head in your bathroom. Two seconds and its done!

How long it lasts

We haven’t had this unit quite a year yet, but we’ve used it on hundreds of jobs! That is more use than the average homeowner would use it over the course of 5 years or more around the house. It works as good now as it did the first day.

In our estimation it will last several more years with the heavy use we put it through. The average rating value seems to be overall reviews with 5 stars, though there were reviews with 1 star, but nothing really to do with the power washer itself.

Customer service

Ryobi customer service is great. Fortunately, we haven’t had to call them often because of the quality of products they make. But when we have, they’ve pointed us in the right direction. For example, once we needed a user manual and not only did they instantly send us a link to an online manual, they also sent us out a physical copy without having to beg them for one.

Ryobi Customer Service: 1-800-525-2579

How much it costs

The holiday price we paid was only $350 for this Ryobi 2300 electric pressure washer. It wasn’t really pressure washing season, so we probably saved some money.

When you buy it, we recommend purchasing a longer power cord and longer hose (this longer hose made the user experience much better for us). We also recommend purchasing on Amazon so for a little extra you can take advantage of the 3 year limited warranty. We don’t think you’ll need the warranty because of its solid build, but it will give you peace of mind and DIY inspiration and project gusto to take it out and do more with it.

RYOBI RY80942 3300 PSI 2.3 GPM Cold Water Gas Pressure Washer

Ryobi gas pressure washer

Gas pressure washers can be expensive and harder to operate but not the RYOBI RY80942.

The RYOBI RY80942 3300 PSI 2.3 GPM Cold Water Gas Pressure Washer is perfect for those who want their cleaning quickly and efficiently done. It features a low profile design that makes it easy to maneuver around outdoor obstacles and reaches high pressures for a wide variety of surfaces.

What you get

With the Ryobi RY80942 you get:

  • Power: 3,300 PSI
  • Pump: 2.3 GPM
  • Max Hose Length: 50 ft
  • Hose I.D.: 1/2″
  • Water Inlet: Female Garden Hose Thread
  • Hose Reel: Yes
  • Hoses Included: Yes
  • Nozzle Types: Turbo nozzle, High, Low, Soap

How well it cleans

The Ryobi RY80942 having a reliable Honda motor cleans as well as any commercial pressure washer would. This gas model only uses 2.3 gallons per minute when cleaning house siding, a deck, patio furniture, concrete driveway, or even washing cars.

The quick release nozzles (tips) combined with the 3,300 PSI pressure washer will clean anything you need to clean.

User experience

Gas pressure washers are great for portability and using portable gravity fed water tanks. This makes them useable in remote areas where there is no electricity or water hookup available. That’s what you get with the Ryobi RY80942, making the user experience convenient and one reason it gets so many reviews with 5 stars.

We also like the design of the spray wand, the hose storage, larger wheels and especially the collapsible handle that comes standard with the Ryobi RY80942. These features and no power cord make transporting the pressure washer as convenient as can be. These features also make for easy storage in our garage. And, though we don’t recommend it, we’ve even hauled this pressure washer in the back seat of our company car.

How long it lasts

Here at Lakeland Pressure Washing we’ve been using (abusing?) the Ryobi RY80942 for 9 months now. We’ve put this unit through everything imaginable. It doesn’t seem to wear out!

For a home owner using it seasonally, this unit should last you for years.

Customer service

Ryobi customer service is great. We haven’t had to call them once about this product in particular, but we have called them about other products and to get information from them in the past. Lakeland Pressure Washing recommends this product in part because of their great customer service.

Contact Customer Service: 1-800-525-2579

How much it costs

The Ryobi RY80942 costs a tiny fraction more than the Ryobi RY802900 electric model. We paid $487.77 and an additional $59.99 for the 3 year limited warranty.

Runner Up: Sun Joe SPX3000 Electric Pressure Washer

Sun Joe electric pressure washer

Not a Ryobi, true, but definitely worth mentioning as a first class runner up is the Sun Joe SPX 3000 Electric Pressure Washer. We’ve been a fan of the Sun Joe SPX 3000 for a couple of years now, mainly because it works so gosh-darn-good!

Yes, you’re not going to get the same power you get with Ryobi pressure washers, nor the stability and near as powerful a motor, but for the price and the typical home owner this very well could be exactly what you are looking for. And we highly recommend the Sun Joe SPX3000 2030 max PSI electric pressure washer, and use it ourselves on our own homes!

What you get

The Sun Joe 2030 Max PSI 1.76 GPM 14.5-Amp Electric Pressure Washer is perfect for washing cars, trucks, boats, patios, decks, siding, fences, and other large outdoor surfaces.

With the Sun Joe 2030 Max PSI 1.76 GPM 14.5-Amp Electric Pressure Washer you get:

  • This pressure washer has a powerful 1.76 GPM flow rate so it’s ideal for heavy-duty cleaning jobs.
  • It features a convenient quick connect garden hose connection that makes set-up and take-down easy-breezy.
  • The Sun Joe 2030 Max PSI 1.76 GPM 14.5-Amp Electric Pressure Washer is a powerful, lightweight, electric pressure washer that has multiple nozzles (color coded) and attachments to provide you with a variety of cleaning options.
  • The Sun Joe 2030 Max PSI 1.76 GPM 14.5-Amp Electric Pressure Washer comes with a quick connect hose reel for easy storage, a turbo nozzle, a 20-foot power cord, an on/off switch with an emergency shut off feature, and other nice features.
  • Sun Joe 2030 also comes with a detergent tank perfect for pre treating filthy surfaces like pressure washing a truck, a deck, and even soft washing roofs or for that matter soft washing a house.

How well it cleans

The Sun Joe 2030 cleans exceptionally well for being an electric pressure washer. Does it have the same stability and power as the RYOBI RY802900? Well, no. But for most jobs you can imagine a home owner needing done, it cleans exceptionally well.

The other day we used our Sun Joe 2030 to to clean off some moldy patio furniture and it made the outside chair cushions look brand new again.

Recently we used this power washer to power wash a driveway and an older house with aluminum siding. It is a good all around washer that’s not quite got the cleaning power or force that the Ryobi has, but both the hose and pressure washer works great when you want to clean a deck or really any pressure washing job.

User experience

Fun is the word that comes to our mind. The Sun Joe is fun!

For some strange reason we never grow tired of using this pressure washer. It pressure washes everything an average home owner would want to pressure wash and then some.

We’ve used this unit to clean boats, cars, our company trucks, driveways, pools, patios, decks, awning, hurricane shutters, and other exterior surfaces. It does great and cleans everything nicely.

The detergent tank makes using this particular model convenient. We use it often for soft washing roofs because it lets us treat the roof with the right ratio of bleach and water. You have to have this right so you don’t over heat the shingles or tiles but heat them enough to kill the mold, algae, and other contaminants that can bring a roof to ruin earlier than necessary.

How long it lasts

The unit has lasted us for years. “It takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin'” as the saying goes. Meaning it’s like the Energizer Bunny — “It keeps going and going and going!”

Customer service

Like Ryobi, Sun Joe has fantastic customer service also. They are their for their customers. We’ve called them a few times over the years and their staff have always treated us well.

How much it costs

Sun Joe 2030 comes in select colors which may cost you a few dollars more here and there. We purchased the blue one and paid $150.26. It is hard to beat the all the value you get with the Sun Joe 2030, given it costs little compared to other electric pressure washers.
